Silver Fern Farms fined $50,000 over accident | Stuff.co.nz

Silver Fern Farms has been fined $50,000 after an employee at its Waitoa plant near Te Aroha severely injured two of his fingers in a workplace accident.

The company also had to pay out $20,000 in emotional harm reparation to the employee, in a decision at the Morrinsville District Court.

The accident happened in early October last year when an employee was working with a hock cutter, which developed a fault.

The tool could not be isolated from its power source at the workstation so it was placed to one side in a sterilising bath pending maintenance.
