Kewaunee nuclear plant to close next year

Shutdown of the Kewaunee Power Station nuclear plant on Lake Michigan in Kewaunee County, Wis., will begin in six months, a spokesman for the owner said Monday. The site eventually will be returned to greenfield space, although that is expected to take decades.

Lake Huron water levels are approaching historic lows, which is also impacting adjacent Lake Chipican, a popular wetland in Sarnia, Ontario’s Canatara Park. Large sections of the pond bed are high and dry.
